Japan Karatedo Federation Wado Kai
The “Dai Nippon Karate Shinko Club",an original body of Wado-Kai,
was founded by Hironori Otsuka.
It was later established as "Dai Nippon Karatedo Shinbukai”.
Around the year 1940, the karate-ka following Otsuka’s vision
participated in "Celebration for 2600B.C. and 44th Butoku Festival"
under the name "Wado-Ryu Karate Jutsu". The name "Wado-Ryu" was
established.
In the mid 1950’s Otsuka’s karate-ka participated in a demonstration
(embu-kai) in commemoration of 20th anniversary of Wado-Ryu and to
celebrate the foundation of "Zen Nippon Karatedo Renmei" at Hibiya
Public Hall.
On June5, 1967, the name of Zen Nippon Karatedo Renmei was changed to

The “JKF” in JKF Wado–Kai refers to the Japan Karatedo Federation,
which is recognized by the World Karatedo Federation as the governing
body for karate in Japan.
JKF Wado-Kai Technical Department manages testing to obtain various
qualifications, sets standards and implements planned seminars so that
practitioners will meet these technical standards.
JKF Wado-Kai also has a national championship tournament every year.
This tournament is a major karate event in Japan.
Every two years JKF Wado-Kai has a World Wado-Kai Championships.
